It can be frustrating as a mom or dad to hear your baby try to communicate with you or cry with no idea of what it is they want. Those first few years can be difficult constantly trying to decipher needs. Speech is a long process that takes years to fully develop. However, speaking is not the only means of communication.

The deaf community has a language that babies can start to adapt to and use within the first six months. Learning sign language allows families the opportunity to communicate earlier. Studies have shown that when children learn sign language it broadens their verbal communication skills and even improves their IQ. Sign Language also helps toddlers learning how to read. Connecting sign with the learning experience uses both sides of the brain and aids to a higher retention rate.

Carrie studied sign language while at TCU and uses her sign language skills to teach words, songs, stories and play games with babies and their families. Carrie offers a basic baby sign language class as well as more tailored classes to specific subjects such as Bath & Mealtime, Animals & Colors, and Actions and Opposites. Each class contains 4, 1 hour units, and includes worksheets from each unit, flashcards and song review DVD. Contact Carrie to sign up for a class or to purchase review materials to do on your own.
